BBL™ Hair Removal
Many men and women have unwanted body hair that they are tired of removing through temporary, ineffective means such as shaving, waxing or bleaching. BBL Laser hair removal using Sciton® BBL technology removes hair from targeted areas of the skin for smooth results through a safe, minimally invasive procedure.
Laser hair removal is most commonly performed on the face, upper lip, neck, chest, underarms, back, abdomen, bikini line and legs, although it can be performed on most any area with excess hair growth.
Candidates for BBL Laser Hair Reduction
The ideal patient for BBL laser hair reduction is someone with excessive hair growth who is unhappy with the appearance of the hair and seeking a long-term, simple solution. Excessive hair growth may be caused by a number of different reasons, including puberty, pregnancy, menopause, heredity, medication or disease.
Other patients with normal hair growth, who are tired of constantly shaving, waxing or plucking their unwanted hair may benefit from this procedure as well. Because the broadband light (BBL) treatment uses light energy to targets pigment, this procedure is usually most effective on patients with darker hair and light or untanned skin. It is important for patients to have realistic expectations about BBL laser hair reduction in order to be satisfied with their results. A consultation is recommended to determine if you are a candidate for this procedure.
While this treatment can effectively reduce hair on many patients, it may not be suitable for all skin types. It can be used on nearly any area of the body with unwanted hair growth, including the legs, underarms, chest, back, face and more. A representative from the office will be happy to talk with you regarding your questions to determine if BBL laser hair reduction is right for you.
How does this treatment work?
During laser hair removal, the targeted area of skin is heated with laser energy to destroy hair follicles in the active growth state. An advanced cooling system ensures that the surface of the skin stays safe and is not damaged during treatment.
There may be some slight discomfort during this procedure, similar to the sensation of a rubber band being snapped against the skin. Topical numbing cream is available to minimize discomfort, but most patients are able to undergo this procedure without any anesthesia.
Recovery and Results
After BBL hair reduction, patients may experience some redness and swelling in the treated area, but these symptoms usually go away on their own within a few days. Patients can return to work and other normal activities immediately after treatment. Excessive sun exposure should be avoided for some time after this treatment.
To achieve hair-free skin, most patients may need a series of three to eight treatments spaced three to eight weeks apart. This will ensure that all follicles will be treated while in the active growth phase for effective removal. Dr. Baker will develop a personalized treatment plan for you based on your individual case.
